2. Enter Childcare Days and Number of Children
Add the number of care days required each week, from one to seven. Then enter how many children need the same holiday arrangement.
The calculator applies one rate, daily schedule and holiday-period pattern to every child. If children have different providers, rates or care days, calculate them separately and add the results.

3. Add Each School-Holiday Period
Enter the required weeks for:
- Summer holidays
- Easter holidays
- Christmas holidays
- Half-term breaks
The calculator adds these periods together. At least one holiday week must be entered. Use only weeks when paid childcare is expected rather than the complete school calendar.
4. Include Meals, Trips and Other Extras
Enter the combined household amount for weekly meals or other repeating charges. Do not multiply this field by the number of children because the calculator treats it as the weekly total for everyone.

5. Enter Annual Household Income
The income field does not test eligibility. It is used only to show the estimated amount after support as a percentage of household income. Enter the annual household figure you want to use for planning.
6. Include Tax-Free Childcare if Confirmed
Tick the Tax-Free Childcare box only when you have confirmed eligibility and expect the provider and costs to qualify. Enter the number of disabled children when applicable.
The calculator applies an estimated 20% top-up, limited to £2,000 annually for each standard child and £4,000 for each disabled child. It assumes enough annual top-up entitlement remains available. How Are Holiday Childcare Costs Calculated?
For a daily rate:
Core cost = daily rate × care days per week × holiday weeks × children
For an hourly rate:
Core cost = hourly rate × hours per day × care days × holiday weeks × children
Extras are calculated as:
Extras = weekly meals and extras × holiday weeks + one-off trips and extras
The total before support is:
Total holiday childcare cost = core cost + extras
When Tax-Free Childcare is selected:
Estimated top-up = lower of total cost × 20% or combined annual child caps
Estimated amount after support = total cost − top-up
